pride 2007 in the dirty south

ok yall if i have to use one word to describe pride last weekend: HOT!

and let me be clear, i don't mean it was hot b/c of all the lesbos with sports bras
and i don't mean hot b/c of all the gay men with hot pants and impossibly large bulges
i mean it was 95 in the shade oh my gosh i think i need to visit the medical tent HHHHHOOOOOTTTT

that said, i actually had a pretty good time.

friday night we did not do pride things. we went to an atlanta braves vs. detroit tigers game. drank a beer, ate some shaved ice and left at the 7th inning. it was fun. then we headed to kir and al's b/c al graduated with his mfa from georgia state. it was nice to hang out with them and some mutual friends and to see their cute ass dogs copper, sonny, and angel. then we went home and fell fast asleep.

i got up at the ass crack on saturday morning so i could pick up kim and we headed to the pride walk/run. we walked. it was great to get some exercise, to have an hour to chat with kim, and to raise money for youth pride. i am so glad i went.

here is a picture of us before the walk:

and here is a picture of us after the walk:

after the walk, kim and i got a delicious breakfast at ria's bluebird cafe. then we headed home to shower and get ready for pride. we got to the park and it was hot as fuck and all we had done was walk from the car to the park with the cooler and our bags. all three of us paused under a tree and contemplated whether or not we could really handle the heat. we decided to forge on and found a spot in the shade. here is a cute picture of sarah and kim chillaxin at pride:

we hung out mostly, did a little walking around and i sat with sarah at the atlanta lesbian health initiative (ALHI) tent. at around 6pm, jes and i headed over to the dyke march. it was fun. lots of boobs with their nipples covered. no major arrests or anything. we marched with mondohomo folks and wore matching tshirts. check it out:

on saturday night we worked a raffle at sisters. there was burlesque and drag going on there and we sold a few tickets here and there, had a couple of beers, and then headed wafflehouse for some greasy hashbrowns. i thought that wearing my booty shorts might help sell tickets. it didn't really, but they will hella comfie and kept me pretty cool. here is a picture of me with my other mondohomo shirt and booty shorts on:

sunday morning we got up and headed to the pride parade. again it was pass out hot, but we worked it out. we marched with mondo homo folks. jes held the banner with some other folks while i chanted and passed out mondohomo flyers to all the happy gays and allies (i did not give any to the religious folks telling us we were going to hell, i didn't think they would show up at a queer performance festival). i felt really happy at pride b/c we were marching and chanting with folks from the us social forum and the other group called the feminist outlawz (yes they spell it with a "z"). so it was great b/c we chanted about mondohomo, fighting homophobia, being a feminist, and the importance of the social forum. and the folks watching just seemed so happy and high energy. it just felt good. we headed home pretty soon after the parade to shower and get ready for dinner with jes's folks. i almost fell asleep at the table b/c i was so exhausted from the heat. after dinner we went home and i think i passed out on the couch. it was a long hot weekend.

this week has been busy with mondohomo stuff. jes went to the kick off last night. i stayed home b/c i didn't feel great. tonight we met up with sarah and kim at piedmont park for screen on the green. they were showing E.T. i can't tell you how excited i was to see this movie. we got there pretty early and it was packed. we ate and drank and chatted. it was so nice. and then the clouds rolled in. and with them came the lightning and the thunder. and then they cancelled the movie. i was so sad we didn't get to watch the film, but hanging out and munching on some treats and chatting with kim and sarah was so nice.

i am still real tired, but i need to buck up. tomorrow night is homo hop and electro pop and then saturday is the craft fair and all kinds of other stuff at mondohomo. sunday we might go for a bike ride in the morning and then more mondo in the afternoon. oy. i need a vacation.

suppa club in the hizzouse

so its seriously a month later, but i wanted to post some pics from when our supper club friends from new york came to visit the atl.

but before we begin with that, take a look at this sweet buddy:

almost makes you want to be a yankees fan, doesn't it? nah! just kidding kim!

so the ladies got here on a friday night and we took them first to el myr. everyone loved the food (how can you not?) and i think we were all feeling our adult beverages too. we just came back here and then hung out until we crashed.

on saturday morning jes and ali went to the atlanta aquarium while glennda, kim and i headed to the pool. it was lovely. then when they got back to the house from th aquarium, they joined us as well. here are some pictures from that:

here is one of ali and glennda jumping in the pool:

and here is one of the lovahs:

that weekend we also went to the mall, i think they liked it. ali REALLY liked that they had a Limited.

on sunday night we went to mondohomo's teaser party at eyedrum. there was art and performance and pbr. here is a pic:

we also went to dairy queen twice (there were here three days). i am pretty sure kim fell in love with blizzards.

here is a picture of supper club right before we took them to the airport. triple cutie sammie:

i know we did other shit but i can't remember b/c it was so long ago. maybe they will read this and comment about what else we did b/c seriously, i am at a loss.

ok so this weekend is pride so i am sure i will have a million pictures and a million stories from that. stay tuned.

all my families at the graduation ceremony

here it is, almost a month later and i am finally posting the pictures from my graduation ceremony.
i was feeling pretty sick through most of it.
not sure if it was cramps or anxiety or what, but i really just wanted to make it across the stage without passing out or throwing up. that said, it was still incredibly moving to have all these people support and love me and at the end of ceremony i started to cry a little bit. while the fall out from the day has been pretty anti-climatic, it does feel really good to realize a life goal. ok enough of this pish posh, lets get to the pictures:

here is one of jes and i after the ceremony:

and here is one of us with jes's folks who were so gracious and generous throughout the weekend. so glad they were there:

as i was waiting for my peeps to come out of the building, i saw a woman that looked like my mom. then i realized it was my mom. she decided she wanted to see one of my graduations, so she traveled from colorado secretly to see this one. it made the day pretty tense since she hasn't really talked to me or my sister in months. my nephew was the one who really spotted her in the crowd, but after everyone left to go back home she and i got to talk a little. it wasn't happily ever after by any stretch of the imagination, but at least we both tried. here is a picture of my mom, me, kath, greg and ben:

and here is one of aly, nicole, rowan and me. how cute are they?

and of course my famillia from the west coast had to represent! here is mary, dusty and me. i am the one with the silly black dress and the HOT sneakers on:

so there is a little taste of my graduation. next up: suppa club in the atl, yall.

cute family

just wanted to get these cute pics off my desktop
they are of kennie and kelli and their babygirl em:

so many stories, such little time

i know i owe you a lot
more about my graduation party
and then about my graduation
and then about supper club coming to visit us here in the atl

but here is the deal
jes and i are playing softball with the folks at her new summer associateship
and we had our first practice today
it was hot as fuck and i am so incredibly exhausted
we are both pretty sure we will not be able to raise our arms above our head tomorrow
its going to be a hard day, for shizzle.

ok so here is a little nibble; some pictures from the party
all in all, the party went great. the food was amazing, folks all got along, the weather cooperated and the kids-both at the party and in our complex-had a blast. they all LOVED the generic popsicles i got for them.

here is a picture of the food spread:

and here is a real cute one of nicole, alyson, dusty and jes just kicking it in the backyard:

now mary and ro became fast friends b/c ro brought not one but TWO card games to play. mary is very competitve and quick learner, therefore there was some serious rat a tat cat and the 50 states card game playing going on:

here is one of higgs, sarah and kim, the three amigos:

now this one is one of my favorites, its of my nephew ben with our neighbor ben and they are holding hands. adorable.

and while some of the kids ran around and played on the toys, bailey played near the bushes with dusty and a toy truck:

and here is one of jes and ro, after i finished opening my presents. that's ro's new stuffed animal bobcat, who we named bc:

so that is just a taste. i will try and post more later this week yall
happy june.
