oprah and more bambino

before i really get into today's story, let me first post my obligatory bambino and his mommies photo:

does it get any cuter than that?
i don't think so.

so life in brooklyn is pretty run of the mill. jes leaves for school everyday and comes back ten hours later. while she is gone i do my job, work on my resume and do house work. i have a day by day plan for cleaning the house before my sister, brother in law and nephew get here. yesterday i did the bathroom. today i do the kitchen. riveting, isn't it? maybe, if you are lucky, i might take a picture of our newly organized hall closet (its really the only closet we have) so all of our clothes are in there as well as my drag king archives (because i don't want them downstairs in the damp basement). the orderliness of it brings joy to my life. the only other thing that is exciting in my life right now is that i am taking care of bambino some afternoons. i go over there and feed him and play with him and change his pee pee pads. my favorite thing is how he takes each kibble from the bowl back to his little house/crate. maybe i should try that technique. i bet i would lose weight if i had to walk into the bedroom with each bite and then scamper back to my bowl/plate. i would call it the scamper diet.

oh i also got a massage last night from the woman on the third floor. they rent out the back bedroom to this woman meg and i figured it was baby jesus telling me to get a massage if a massage therapist is renting *in my building.* it was a nice deep tissue massage. she did her vulcan grip on my neck and shoulders a few times and and i had to hold my breath and she did *something* to my left hip on the back and the front and i thought i was going to cry. clearly there is something going on with my left hip i was unaware of. it hurt so bad, but i made it through. the only time i have ever stopped a massage lady from doing her work was in atlanta when this woman seriously almost collapsed my lung. i finally had to say "ok, i can't handle this." the hip thing last night was intense but i was able to yoga breathe through it.

so since my life is less than enthralling now, let me tell you about my friends sarah and kim's lives. over labor day weekend they headed to mississippi (where sarah is from) for grannyfest, the yearly celebration of her gramma, who turned 84 this year. so they all met up at the only four star hotel in mississippi, and i want to say it was in greenville, but i am sure that is wrong, so lets all hope that sarah reads this and corrects my mistake in the comments. anywho, granny got the only suite in the hotel and the family hooped it up all weekend long. all in all it was a great time sarah says. now here is the kicker: when they arrived at the hotel, there was a buzz that none other than OPRAH WINFREY was staying there. and sure as shit, they got a note under their doors saying the piano bar was specially being opened (for oprah) on a sunday, so they all headed there and there was O, her best friend (lover?) gayle and gayle's kids. the first thing i asked, was "what was oprah wearing?" sarah said she was kicking it live one time in a track suit with long diana ross-ish hair. i was hoping more for a satin champagne colored gown, but the hair sounds divine.

so it ends up that o and gayle were in town b/c oprah was dedicating the new boys and girls club she built in her home town of...yeah, its this long name that begins with a "k" that sounds Polish when i read it, but not so much when sarah says it. anywho, this was the nicest hotel close to her hometown i guess. some of sarah's peeps went up to oprah's peeps and told her about grannyfest and she gave granny a big ole hug and congratulated her on her bday and all. ends up granny got the suite that oprah wanted. sorry oprah, granny is in the hizzouse.

the last day they were all there, oprah was loading up into her black escalade (of course) and sarah said "hi oprah" and oprah waved at her. how cool is that? of course i got all these details at the end of the weekend. i was first made privvy to the star sighting through a text message from sarah that simply said "just got done having drinks with oprah here in mississippi." i just about fell out and promptly called sarah and left her a voicemail to call me IMMEDIATELY, using her first, her middle and her last name so she knew i meant bizness.

so that is pretty much it yall. well i guess we watched this movie "tsotsi" last night. its about a gang of young robbers in south africa and how one guy who does all this bad stuff, ends up redeeming himself after taking care of this CUTE little baby he finds in the back of a car he steals. sounds like a good story, doesn't it? the movie- not so great. its REAL SLOW paced. really the best thing about it is the baby, and this other baby in the story named nabu. i wouldn't recommend it and you know how i love the subtitled films about redemption.

it looks like it is going to be a sunny day! i am thrilled. i have to say this on and off rain has got me a little down. i could NEVER live in seattle, that is for sure. ok, happy thursday yall!

To clarify, the hotel is the only FIVE star hotel in MS (just to give props to the Alluvian--but if you think about it, there probably aren't all that many 4 star hotels is MS either). Also, the town is Greenwood (there is a Greenville nearby). And thirdly, though I did wave and say, "Hi, Oprah," she neither noticed nor said hello back. But my parents passed her as they got off the elevator, and they exchanged "good mornings." Thus ends my story.

Oh no worries. I hear Kim every day re-telling "the story," and by now Gayle and I are apparently thick as thieves. I'm practically Oprah's back-up in case she can't fulfill her best friend duties.
